Piaggio PD808

This extraordinary bizjet type is the result of an adventure between Piaggio and Douglas. The aircraft with Rolls Royce Viper engines was no real success, because only the Italian armed forces flew them actively. You can easily recognise the PD808 as the engines are placed almost directly against the fuselage. On most aircraft they are mounted on larger pylons. Furthermore it has a somewhat "popping out" cockpit area, oval cabin windows and large tip tanks.

Different versions

The different versions of the PD808 can be identified by looking at:

  • the number of cabin windows
  • the shape of antennas

Details will follow later.

Confusion possible with

Learjet 24/25

lj24d

From a distance, the PD808 may look a like a Learjet 24 or 25 without a T-tail, judging its large tip tanks. However, it is a completely different aircraft when you look closer. The Learjets have two curved cockpit windows with no "popping out" cockpit, engines on larger pylons and rectangular cabin windows.

North American Sabreliner

The same could be said for the Sabreliner, but then because of the nearly cruciform tail. However, there are many differences, like the lack of tip tanks, triangular cabin windows, different cockpit windows and so on.
